Rashed AlShashai is a Saudi-based contemporary artist and educator, born in Al Baha in 1977. He was a founding member of the Saudi Arabia Fine Arts Society and the Art Education Society. In 2009, he founded the Tasami Center for Visual Arts in Jeddah, an independent venue that he oversaw until 2014. Through his teaching at Al Faisaliah Gifted School, AlShashai has been a formative influence on a generation of Saudi artists. He is currently the art director of the Madina Arts Centre.
Rashed AlShashai’s work has been displayed locally and internationally including in the IFS Chongqing, China (2022), Diriyah Biennale (2021), Art Dubai (2021 and 2019), Noor Riyadh (2022 and 2021), Palais de Tokyo in Paris (2020), Mnwr 5 in Kuwait (2019), Start London (2019), the Kennedy Centre in Washington, D.C. (2018), the Islamic Arts Festival in Sharjah (2017), and the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (2017).
